As I Came Down

1.

 

A lady bug landed and I counted seven spots.

 

A second lady bug landed and I counted six.

 

A single match can consume an entire forest.

 

No one is spared.

 

2.

 

Peanut butter and honey sandwiches.

 

Music in your lungs and a bobby pin in your hair.

 

Later - years later,  I’d find bobby pins in my house

 

and they would mean so much to me.

 

3.

 

A conversation like a staircase where each step 

 

climbed is a  reason to jump once ascended;

 

And as I came down, you didn’t look the same.

 

I’d have left, right then

 

but I was nowhere close to home.
